Full circle.

I remember when my mom brought home the book I’ll Love You Forever. She read it to us (or tried to) and immediately started crying. She was nearly hysterical by the time the book was finished. My brother, sister, and I looked at her confused and secretly thought she had lost her mind. We simply had no idea why she was crying. Over the years, we’d torment her by repeating lines from the book. She’d start whimpering and beg us to stop.

So, tonight, when A brought home Happy Birth Day! from daycare for me to read to her I didn’t think anything of it. And by the end of the first page I was babbling like an idiot. I nearly couldn’t finish the book. Besides the book being about a mother relaying a birth story to a child, I kept having to add all of the details about A’s birth. By the time the book was finished, A was staring at me like I was crazy.

And I’ll be calling my mom tonight.

  1. ah, emotions. the book is called “HAPPY birth day” yet you cry. this is why i don’t have any emotions. They make one a walking contradiction.

we balance each other out so well, eh?
